Main Purpose:
To work with a targeted group of students, from a designated Key Stage, to identify and address barriers to success and support them in achieving the best possible educational outcomes, and supporting their broader personal development.

All staff, and targeted students within a designated Key Stage

Parents/Carers/other family members
External agencies and stakeholders as appropriate
Main Duties:
Learning Mentors will work directly with targeted students in order to support students in:
- Ensuring consistently high attendance
- Making sustained improvements to their behaviour
- Developing effective learning strategies, and therefore to make good academic progress
- Improving their confidence and wellbeing
The main duties will include:
- Monitoring the attendance of individual students where this has been raised as a concern. Using school procedures to contact families and provide support where appropriate to improve attendance and punctuality
- To provide a structured a highly personalised programme of coaching and mentoring support for identified students
- To work with teachers and students to devise and monitor individual action plans to support specific students, including through promoting the effective use of independent study/home learning
- To liaise with teachers and support staff to promote the effective use of behaviour management strategies for specific students
- To liaise with school Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) Education Social Workers and other statutory and voluntary agencies to access all forms of support, and ensure the best provision for students
- Maintain regular contact with families/carers of students in need of support, keeping them informed of needs and progress, to ensure all stakeholders are working together to support the student and involvement
- Working closely with the SLT Link and Director of Learning, provide support for students and their families who join the school during the course of an academic year
- To assist with after school clubs and activities, for example through leading Safe Space club and mentoring workshops
- To support SLT and Directors of Learning with ensuring the smooth running of the school, including by undertaking a full programme of daily duties, and through being part of 'Learning Walk' and 'Return to Learn' rotas
- Maintain high visibility with students in your designated Key Stage
- To support SLT and Directors of Learning with upholding excellent standards of behaviour across the school
- To support SLT and Directors of Learning with the organisation and implementation of key trips and events relating to your designated Key Stage
- Keeping a clear written record of all support for individual students, and all communication
- To safeguard and promote the welfare of children, including attending fortnightly meetings to monitor vulnerable students within your designated Key Stage
- To be part of the school's First Aid rota as a qualified First Aider (training will be provided)
- To perform other reasonable duties within scope of skills as directed by line manager
Other Specific Duties:
- To continue personal development as agreed at appraisal reviews
- To engage actively in the appraisal review process
- To address the appraisal targets set by the line manager each Autumn Term
- To actively participate in relevant staff training and development opportunities, including staff induction and behaviour support as appropriate
- To promote and follow the Trust's corporate policies
- To comply with the Trust's Health and Safety policy and undertake risk assessments as appropriate
- To show a record of excellent attendance and punctuality
- To adhere to the Trust's Dress Code
- To undertake any other reasonable duty delegated by the Principal
