The RCGP Examinations team are responsible for delivering over 6,500 sittings of the Applied Knowledge Test (AKT) annually, and over 5,000 sittings of the Simulated Consultation Assessment (SCA) annually.

We are looking for an Examinations Officer for the AKT, who will take responsibility for AKT item bank maintenance and compilation, and AKT test form building four times a year.


As the Examinations Officer for the AKT you will be responsible for the AKT item bank, which will include maintenance of item content, metadata and statistics.

You will assist the AKT Clinical Lead and Deputy Clinical Lead in the construction of four AKT tests per year, which will involve using bespoke item bank software to compile and proof-read AKT tests forms.

Additionally you will take responsibility for the delivery of AKT paper tests, from materials production to face-to-face delivery.

You will support the MRCGP Examination AKT Manager in general administration of the AKT timeline, which includes servicing five AKT Core Group meetings per year and engaging with an external psychometric team for the purpose of AKT results processing.


We are looking for someone with excellent organisational skills, an ability to adopt an orderly and precise approach to work paying meticulous attention to detail.

You will have experience in compiling and managing databases, ideally in an education/examinations environment.
