Chief Engineer
Our client is one of the UKs leading Automotive Engineering companies and they are looking for an experienced Chief Engineer within Prototype Build and Test to join their ever growing team.

Main Purpose of Role:
Leadership and growth of the Prototype Build & Test department, responsible for ensuring capability and capacity to suit ongoing business needs.
Key Activities:
- Ensure effective department organisation structure with appropriate resource levels and skills, workload planning, clarity of roles and responsibilities including recruitment as required
- Ensure the Health and Safety of all activities in the prototype build & test areas.
- Lead engineering test facility growth strategy and implementation across multiple locations.
- Technically supervise and support department activities, both on customer and internal projects
- Provide coaching and leadership in technical skills and personal development
- Provide contributions to the technical and strategic direction of the business taking into consideration market, legislative and customer trends
- Maintain industry awareness of relevant topics
- Establish relationships with suppliers, academic institutions, and external resource providers
- Provide a professional and technically good interface with customers and suppliers as required to support business development and project activities
- Undertake any other duties of which the knowledge, skills and experience required fall within a post holder's position in the company.
Education/Qualifications Required:
- Honours Degree in an appropriate engineering discipline
- Professional qualification such as CEng with IMechE, IEE or similar is desirable
Experience Required:
years of industry experience, including management of diverse teams
- Experience building & testing engines, electric motors, transmissions and/or power electronics is ideal
- Automotive, commercial vehicles or rail sectors is desirable especially within powertrain systems
- Working at or with OEMs or as Tier 1 supplier is desirable, across R&D and volume manufacturing
- Experience of a wide range of test equipment and measurement systems
- Delivery of "Cap Ex" projects: planning, installation and ongoing operation of new facilities and plant equipment (e.g. cooling systems, electrical power)
- Working within product development or engineering projects is desirable
- Working with external subcontracted facilities and resources
- Lead or management responsibility within technical projects is desirable
- Experience with quality management and Health & Safety systems
Skills & Attributes Required:
- Strong management and supervisory skills
- Strong understanding of powertrain and/or vehicle build and test facilities
- Good commercial awareness and ability to manage capital expenditure and operational budgets
- Strong problemsolving skills
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work in crossbusiness teams and build a rapport with individuals from a variety of backgrounds
- Strong people management and leadership skills
- Good awareness of business skills
- Effective communicator at all levels including written and verbally
