An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated Band 6 Specialist Dietitian who have an interest in working with adults and young people with mental health conditions, learning disabilities and/or neurological conditions.

You will work approximately 2 days into our Childrens and Young people's services which will be split between Ferndene and our young people's eating disorder services.

Ferndene is a Specialist Children and Young Peoples inpatient unit in Prudhoe, Northumberland.

Ferndene offers an inpatient assessment and treatment service for young people with mental health, behavioural and emotional needs, including those with a learning disability.

Our young people's eating disorder services provide intensive input for young people with anorexia nervosa in the community to prevent hospital admission, The other 3 days of this role will be working into the neurological services wards at Walkergate Park hospital supporting adults with neurological conditions including acquired brain injury and other neurological disease or illness.

Walkergate Park is a specialist neuro rehabilitation centre and the multi
- disciplinary teams have extensive experience and expertise in managing physical disabilities, neurobehavioural, neuropsychological, and neuropsychiatric problems. This post will provide experience and development in a number of areas such as nutrition support, weight management, dysphagia, dementia, diabetes and eating disorders over a number of specialist services.


Full support will be provided by an experienced band 7 Advanced Dietitian and other band 6 Specialist Dietitians working in other specialist areas.

Staff are actively encouraged to take part in the development of the Dietetics service within the Trust including audit and promotion of the service through various events and initiatives.

We offer excellent training opportunities to provide you with the skills you need to do your role.


You will take a lead role in the specialist dietetic assessment, diagnosis, treatment, monitoring and management of patients in the clinical setting.


You will act as a source of expertise in nutrition support and dietetics to patients, consultants, medical staff, other health care professionals, carers and relatives.

The team have strong links with local universities, and we take dietetic students from Teesside and Newcastle Universities.

All staff have a valuable role and are expected to be actively involved in supporting the learning of our dietetic students'.

You will join our expanding Trustwide Dietetics Service which has 30 Dietitians, an Assistant Practitioner and Clinical Support Assistants. The team has excellent links to multidisciplinary teams and nutrition and health promotion initiatives across the Trust. Dietetics is at the forefront of much of this work.

There are hot desking offices available for dietitians to use across the Trust and we will provide you with a laptop and smart phone to enable you to work across multiple sites and access our electronic notes and diaries as needed.


It is essential you have current and ongoing registration as a dietitian with the HCPC to be considered for this post.
