    Job Description:

    Entry Criteria for a Specialty Doctor:

    • A doctor appointed to this grade shall have full registration and a Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council (GMC).
    • A doctor appointed to this grade shall have completed at least four years' full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a less than full-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme or specialty registrar locum appointment for training (LAT).

    Key Responsibilities:

    • The Practitioner will be responsible for the continued care of patients in his/her charge and for the proper functioning of the department.
    • This hospital provides a broad canvas of surgical specialities but additionally is a tertiary centre for Plastic surgery, ENT, Maxillo-Facial surgery and ENT.

    Out of Hours Commitments:

    • 4.0 PA will be allocated to represent 1 night resident emergency care per week, 20.00h-08.30h, at 4/3 remuneration.
    • This post may be used to provide a degree of evening session elective surgery activity, the exact extent / requirement of this is currently unclear, and will be established when post is taken up, or thereafter.
    • 4 or 5 - depending on night requirement - DCC sessions will be directed towards Elective Theatre activity.
    • Additionally, there is a possibility that Saturday morning elective surgical activity will be established.

    Departmental Information:

    Most Anaesthetic specialities are represented; involving both elective and emergency work, although there is only elective work in general surgery and orthopaedics.

    There is some paediatric anaesthesia in many of the surgical specialities.

    A CEPOD Theatre allows emergency surgery during working hours.

    Additional Workload:

    • Acute pain team
    • Chronic pain for internal referrals
    • Central access service (Hickman, Midline etc.)
    • Pre Assessment (general and obstetric)
