Description

We are looking for Visitor Services Assistant that will provide operational support to ensure a welcoming, safe and rewarding visitor experience within the Heritage, Museums and Arts service.


Main Duties:


  • Ensure the smooth operation of visitor services prioritizing the needs of the visitor at Arts Centre Washington and Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens
  • Maintain a healthy, safe and secure environment to ensure the safety and security of visitors, staff, contractors, museum collections, exhibition/gallery spaces and buildings.
  • Actively and consistently promote Museum, Heritage and Arts activities (and other citywide cultural activity/venues) including programmed exhibitions, performances, activities and events.

  • Facilitate the opening and closing of buildings and galleries.
  • Communicate effectively and efficiently with customers in order to provide exceptional standards of customer care meeting the needs of both the visitor and the organisation.
  • Deal sympathetically with queries and complaints, escalating issues where appropriate and in line with procedures.
  • Provide visitors with information about the venue, displays, collections, exhibitions and other attractions, and demonstrate working/interactive exhibits.
  • Be knowledgeable about forthcoming events, activities, promotions and internal updates, ensuring information is shared appropriately.
  • Engage with visitors to improve their visitor experience and seek feedback in the form of visitor surveys.
  • Ensure all publicity and interpretation material is up to date at all times and presented to the highest of standards in galleries and public areas.
  • Operate procedures for opening and closing buildings and activating alarm systems.
  • Ensure the cleanliness of public/storage areas, interactives and displays.
  • Patrol and invigilate public and gallery spaces to monitor and protect buildings, collections, artworks, goods and equipment from damage, vandalism, theft and fire.
  • Provide support with basic building and equipment maintenance reporting any defects or potential hazards.
  • Ensure visitors respect and behave appropriately within venues reporting any disruptive or antisocial behaviour, health and safety or safeguarding concerns.
30 hours per week, shifts to be discussed and agreed.

£11.59 per hour
