Description

The Role:

To provide care and support to a man who is paralysed by a Spinal Cord Injury (level c5/6 complete) to fulfil an active and exciting life.

He needs someone to support him with a variety of tasks to continue to live independently with his wife. Ideally, he'd like two carers to split the shifts available, but everything is considered

Please note training will be provided to all potential applicants.

Main Duties

To assist with getting up, washed and dressed
Using hoists
Using slide boards for some transfers
Personal care, including bowel/bladder management
To support with exercise equipment
Emergency help i.e., choking/catheter changes
General domestic household chores
Gardening
Accompanying to meetings/shopping/leisure activities
Food and drink preparation
To drive occasionally

Personal Qualities and Attributes required:

Good sense of humour
Responsible, reliable and trustworthy
Respectful of dignity and independence
Good communication skills and social skills
Punctual, and flexible
Driver over 25 (car insurance purposes) and comfortable with distant driving
Previous care experience is required
You must like animals (cats and dogs)
Good physical and mental strength

*This role is a lone working position, and an Enhanced DBS (formerly CRB) is required for all staff undertaking the role*
Hours: Flexible, but indicatively:

Monday: 8:30-14:30

Tuesday: 8:30-14:30

Wednesday: 8:30-17:30

Thursday 8:30-17:30

Friday 8:30-14:30

Saturday 8:30-12:30

Sundays 9:00-12:30

There will also be respite breaks to take onboard as well as and when required by the employer.

Pay:
£15.78 per hour or £19.23 per hour self-employed rate.

£79.17 per sleep-in

£348.67 per 24-hour shifts
