We are working with a
Primary school in Whitehaven area who need a
Teaching Assistant -immediate start.

The role is full time Monday to Friday 8.45 until 15.15 and you will be working in a mixed Reception/Yr 1 and Yr 2 Class

There is a high demand for Teaching Assistant support in schools, so there are other opportunities available following this. We can offer
part time and full time roles and either
regular or flexible work, so this provides the opportunity to achieve work in the right way for you - including the
potential to secure long term work, if preferred


The role of a Teaching Assistant in settings is to enhance the learning and development of the children and young people, including working with SEND - ideally you will need relevant knowledge, experience and skills to effectively understand and supporttheir own individual and diverse needs, with a particular focus on social and emotional development.

As a Teaching Assistant you will support the teaching staff in enabling the students to gain independence to participate in the curriculum and the generallife of the school.

Working under the instruction and guidance of the school Senco, you will provide identified support and core needs for students with a wide range of learning & emotional needs.

If you possess the experience or desire to develop your skillsin this area of work, this is a thoroughly rewarding role working with positive and supportive teams.


Duties include;

  • Support for students with special needs, ensuring their safety and access to learning activities.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of individual educational / behavioural plans
  • Establish constructive relationships with students and interact with them according to individual needs
  • Encourage students to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher
  • To set high expectations for participation, learning and behaviour in and out of the classroom
  • Provide feedback to students in relation to progress and achievement under the guidance of the teacher
  • Participate with students in 1:1, in groups or classroom situations
  • To assist with personal are needs of students with physical difficulties
  • To accompany students on organised school visits as appropriate
  • Under the guidance of specialists, participate in the development, delivery and monitoring of individual programmes
  • Support the use of ICT in learning activities and develop students' competence and independence in its use.
  • Prepare, maintain and use equipment and resources required to meet the lesson plans and relevant learning activity and assist students in their use

Is this position for you?

  • A successful TA in this role will have good interpersonal skills, be able to operate as a member of a busy team and be able to seek and accept guidance and support.
  • You should have sound knowledge of child development and an understanding of the different ways children learn, also the strategies that can be used to adapt teaching and engage learners.
