The Credit Control Team at Parasol Homes Limited are looking for a Welfare Benefits Officer to act as the organisation's Housing Benefit Expert.

The role is full-time on a temporary basis for a period of six months and hybrid working 2/3 days in the office is available.


The post holder will be responsible for the full collection of all due housing benefit and service charges and reviewing the Housing Benefit debt portfolio and making necessary appeals/representations to the relevant Local Authorities to recoup debts.

The production & reviews of regular aged debtor issues, escalation & resolution reports.

Working closely with the Credit Controller, Finance and Housing teams to ensure that all Housing Benefit payment gaps are investigated, mitigated and resolved so all tenants receive full and consistent payments.


The job involves but is not limited to:

  • Assist the Credit Controller to ensure that Parasol Homes manages its income via housing benefit and play a crucial part in tracking, managing, and recouping expected payments.
  • Assist with the production of accurate reports reflecting income received vs. income expected and provide commentary to senior management on any areas of non or partial payment
  • Review of Housing Benefit records to identify non or partial payment, investigate reason and act promptly to resolve issue.
  • Work closely with the Finance Team to ensure that debtor accounts are up to date and accurate.
  • Ensure that rent charges are correctly allocated to tenants' accounts, adjusting accounts in an accurate manner as and when required.
  • Provide Line Manager with weekly reports on Housing Benefit collection, alongside exceptions reports with commentary on actions taken to ensure recovery of non or partial payments.
  • Cultivate, manage and maintain excellent working relationships with Local Authority Housing Benefit Departments, ensuring all Local Authority queries associated with benefit payments are handled in an efficient manner.
  • Assist the Housing Officers with any Housing Benefit issues identified at tenancy sign ups, especially with documentation required by Local Authorities.
