Phd Studentship in Quantum Communications - Cambridge, United Kingdom - Toshiba EMEA
Description
Quantum communications uses quantum mechanical phenomena to develop new and improved data transfer technologies. The field is currently experiencing immense interest, with many interesting open scientific problems and significant opportunities for developing practical new systems with wide-ranging benefits, such as securing telecommunication networks as well as connecting up emerging quantum computing hardware.
Toshiba Europe Ltd have been at the forefront of research in quantum technology, particularly quantum communications and quantum key distribution (QKD) for the past two decades.
During this time they have made many breakthroughs, such as record high quantum communication bit rates, operation over international-length-scale fibres and the miniaturisation of complete quantum systems onto photonic chips.
Recently, Toshiba launched a new business unit to commercialise research outcomes and Toshiba QKD systems are now deployed in telecommunication networks across the world.
