There is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic proactive individual to join the Moving and Handling service based within The Christie Education - Workforce Education and Development, providing moving and handling training, education and support across the Trust and satellite centres.


The role includes providing staff with training and information to help reduce the risk of musculoskeletal injuries that may arise at work, ensuring high standards of care in patient handling, promoting a culture of best practice and a safe environment for all staff and patients.


The post holder must be highly motivated and committed to moving the service forward, focusing on maintaining standards and upholding trust protocols and guidelines regarding moving and handling training, best practice, national guidelines and relevant legislation.


The role will also include supporting staff regarding individual risk assessments, working closely with the occupational health team and managers to support them on returning to the workplace.


  • Act as a specialist resource/support for the Trust in relation to safer handling processes and liaise with the Moving and Handling Advisor as appropriate.
  • Advise and support the management plan for patients with complex moving and handling needs, making recommendations to minimise risk.
Be responsible for devising and direct delivery of evidence based essential training programmes in Moving and Handling, developing the on
- going training sessions in line with current guidelines evidence based best practice and current technology

  • Take responsibility for the accurate and timely collection and recording of data / training records, ensuring confidentiality.
  • Responsible for developing and reviewing training materials, presentations ensuring they are aligned with national guidelines.
  • Involvement in policy updates and ongoing audits present at appropriate committees
  • Maintain and develop own knowledge, skills and competence in relation to safer moving and handling practice.
  • Attend local back exchange meeting and National back exchange conference as service allows.
  • Assist with monitoring, investigating and follow up on adverse events related to back injury and musculoskeletal stress, including clinical incident.
  • Assist / advise Mangers and complete organisational risk assessments for inanimate loads as required.

  • Demonstrate a pleasant, approachable, and proactive manner to create and promote a good working relationship within the School of Oncology and the clinical divisions
  • Adhere to uniform policy to maintain a professional appearance
  • Work autonomously and as part of the team, with the ability to prioritise own day to day workload and manage own tim
  • Be aware of own limitations and that of others, seeking advice and guidance from Moving and Handling Advisor and/or senior team
  • Act as a specialist resource/support for the Trust in relation to safer handling processes and liaise with the Moving and Handling Advisor as appropriate
  • Communicate effectively verbally and non-verbally with the MDT regarding moving and handling provision /developments
  • To communicate in both written and verbal form, any health and safety/ergonomics related information to all grades of staff, clinical, non-clinical and external agencies
  • Some interactions may be sensitive or potentially difficult moving and handling related information and should be escalated to Moving and handling advisor
  • Demonstrate effective written communication skills always maintaining confidentiality
  • Demonstrate effective use of Microsoft word, excel and outlook IT packages - always adhering to trust and IT governance policies. Updating and improving as role requires
  • Demonstrate a professional and keen interest in the overall work of the School of
