Furness Cars & Commercials Limited are a well-established and locally acclaimed family business operating from two sites, our head office in Askam-In-Furness and Crooklands near Kendal providing 24- hour specialist roadside assistance and vehicle recovery services to all major motoring organisations, local government authorities, Police & Highways authorities as well as a wide range of local and national customers and businesses, all of which means our workflows are diverse and challenging.


In addition to our roadside recovery department, we also operate a large service department, specialising in the service, repair, maintenance and MOT testing of cars, vans, light and heavy vehicles.

Role Description:


A hands-on role working within our busy Roadside Control Room, the role will be engaged in accepting roadside incidents from a multitude of motoring organisations, customers, members of the public and local government authorities including Cumbria Police and National Highways.

You will be collecting accurate and relevant information, analysing, and determining details essential to the attendance, requesting further details where necessary and dispatching a suitable technician and vehicle capable of attending the incident.


The role will involve using bespoke software along with other available tools to dispatch roadside and recovery technicians to incidents efficiently and effectively with much consideration to customer safety and satisfaction.

Roadside Control can be a fast-paced environment where no two nights are the same.


The role will be focused on maintaining operational excellence throughout, working to a high standard to ensure the needs of our customers are met and exceeded.


Key Requirements:


  • Excellent level of IT literacy, both Microsoft Office packages and the confidence to learn bespoke software and processes.
  • Being able to selfmanage with an organised and efficient approach to work, prioritisation of tasks and time utilisation.
  • Being able to remain calm and reassuring to customers who may be in distressing situations, safely manage the overall situation from beginning to completion.
  • Being able to work under pressure and to time demands / time frames, aiming to meet and exceed KPI targets whilst working efficiently.
  • Being able to work and make decisions from initiative, applied knowledge and available resources and work as part of a collective team, assisting and supporting team members ensuring the requirements of the customer and business are consistently met and exceeded.

Additional Requirements:


  • Business administration qualification or equivalent an advantage but not essential.
  • Geographical knowledge of South Cumbria is an advantage but not essential as training will be given.
  • Experience of working nights and/or differing shifts would be an advantage.
  • Previous experience within a Call Centre or customer facing role would be an advantage as would previous roles demonstrating excellent customer service.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Receiving and analysing roadside and recovery incident details, identifying requirements, and dispatching suitable technicians, vehicles, and resources.
  • Working alongside colleagues and management to ensure administrative duties are completed accurately and efficiently.
  • Working individually and having the ability to make decisions within a fastpaced environment and everchanging workflow.

Particulars:


  • The position is shift based (nights) working four nights on, four nights off pattern.
  • 20 days holiday per annum
  • Full Time / Permanent Position

Salary:


  • Base salary of £2428
  • Base rate of £11.00 per hour and overtime £13.00 per hour
  • Overtime and shift cover earning potential of up to £26500
