About the role:


This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is interested in making a difference to students in the University's further education (FE) division within Buxton and Leek College.


We are looking for an individual who will help us achieve our goal in developing high quality enrichment activities and experiences for our learners.


Buxton and Leek College recognises that enriching the learner experience by offering an enrichment programme that builds on promoting good mental wellbeing and builds essential life, employability and social skills, has a positive impact on learner engagement and outcomes.


You will work closely with a variety of teams (curriculum, student wellbeing, external community groups and employers) to provide a broad, varied and relevant enrichment programme to support the personal development and wellbeing of our students.

You will also be involved in the planning, delivery and evaluation of our "Future Focus" tutorial programme.


You will maintain a highly visible presence across both the curriculum areas and campuses, encouraging, supporting, and leading by example, to inspire a sense of responsibility and community in our learners and enhance their overall college experience.

Line managed by the Operations Manager Learner Journey, you will join an established wider college Learner Journey Team. The team covers a range of student support services including Safeguarding, Student Finance, Careers, Tutorial and Pastoral support.

With a strong student-centred ethos, this team works closely together to support the personal development of our students along with encouraging positive behaviour and attitudes, so ensuring all students achieve positive outcomes and destinations.

Principal accountabilities:


  • To work with the Learner Journey Team, Curriculum Leadership Team (CLT), students and staff to develop, coordinate, deliver and manage the best possible programme of enrichment / enhancement/ extracurricular activities for all students. Ensuring all offerings are continually improved and meet Education Inspection Framework guidelines and are heavily influenced by local community need or driven by filling the skills gap.
  • To monitor, record and measure the impact of all enrichment and extracurricular activities. Evaluating effectiveness, sharing practice and celebrating success. Creating databases and procedures to support the programme and produce impact reports to present to the Learner Journey Manager.
  • To support the Learner Journey Team in ensuring that all students of Buxton and Leek College have a smooth, valuable and positive lifechanging experience from their initial contact with the College through to their transition into employment or to higher education.
  • To liaise with and direct delivery staff under the direction of the Learner Journey Manager.
  • Responsible, under the direction of the Learner Journey Manager, for the budgeting of student activities.
  • To ensure that student voice is at the heart of each stage of the learner journey and leads to positive impact within the enrichment and tutorial programme. Including closing the loop through the active promotion of 'you said we did'.
  • To work with the Learner Journey Team to support the planning, development, delivery and evaluation of the Future Focus Tutorial Framework.
  • To support Curriculum Leaders (CL's) and curriculum staff with the planning and preparation of Trips and Visits.
  • Under the direction of the Learner Journey Manager, design, update and deliver an attractive, appropriate and relevant curriculum of enrichment, informed by market insight and community demand that leads to successful outcomes of, upskilled student, progression to employment or further study.
  • To deliver extensive training for enrichment facilitators / officers under the direction of the Learner Journey Manager ensuring the quality of the enrichment delivery is consistent. Raise payment schedules for sessional staff as required.
  • To ensure that enrichment facilitators / officers comply with prescribed or agreed systems of working. Including visit form procedures, risk assessments, attendance monitoring and following lesson plans.
