Buying Assistant

12 Months FTC

Up to £27,000 + Pension + BUPA + ShareSave + 6.6 weeks holiday + Hybrid Working**

For this role we are looking for someone to be able to work from our head office 3 days a week.


Key responsibilities


Support the Buyer and Assistant Buyer in the delivery of an inspirational category product range bringing the best products, prices and innovation to our customers.

You'll support through the creation and maintenance of vendor and product data, execution of prices and promotions, providing relevant information throughout the buying & merchandising process that is appropriate for all channel requirements, maintaining product data throughout the product lifecycle and supporting the sample process for range development

  • Responsible for day to day vendor query management, including supporting the onboarding and exit of vendors in adherence to B&Q processes and policies
  • Management of timely collection of accurate vendor data ensuring a high level of accuracy and proactively identify solutions to risks and issues
  • Support in the analysis of key vendor performance data, including collection of turnover information
  • Support the Buyer and the Assistant Buyer in the delivery of vendor strategies including supporting the organisation and preparation of vendor meetings and visits
  • Support contract and cost price management through maintaining and creating new contracts and required approval processes within agreed timelines; managing accurate creation, collection, approval and submission of ad hoc agreements such as SVBA to expected timelines
  • Support the budgeting, forecasting and reporting of contract completion and vendor contributions, helping to manage risks and issues
  • Secure accurate customer facing data and content for product/projects across all channels, including brochures
  • Own product data set up and progression to launch, through to archive and deletion, to time and quality expectations, providing updates to the relevant stakeholders
  • Coordinate and accurate execution of the replacement link process
  • Coordinate and execute the category sampling process for range development to support quality assurance and lab set up
  • Execute promotions and price changes as determined by the Buyer and Assistant Buyer using existing pricing processes
  • Work with the Strategic Pricing team to input and keep up to date category product/price comparisons within the Minderest pricing tool
  • Manage buying tracker updates and provide regular updates to relevant stakeholders
  • Use customer and market insights and reporting to keep up to date and create presentations and shape business actions
  • Working alongside merchandising, support the delivery of projects including range reviews, promotions and any ad hoc requirements including planning of regular project meetings; helping to ensure awareness of key milestones
  • Support the buying team with general administration
  • Display a willingness to develop and learn as part of the commercial function, taking on additional responsibilities where required to develop skills and understanding, ideally with a vision of progressing through the organisation

Required skills & experience

  • Strong admin and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise
  • Confident communicator, with strong interpersonal skills to interact with internal and external customers
  • Ability to build relationships across all levels
  • Flexible, proactive and takes initiative
  • Analytical
  • Good attention to detail
  • Basic project management skills
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills, in particular Excel and PowerPoint
  • Prior buying/ retail experience desirable
