Are you a Plant Fitter, Marine Mechanical Engineer or Qualified Mechanical Engineer looking for your next role in the Marine Industry? My client, a reliable and proven business partner offering supply chain solutions through port operations, logistics, storage, handling and distribution, is requiring a Workshop Plant Fitter to join their small team of engineers.


The Role


Work in a busy Port environment as part of a team as the mechanical fitter reporting to the Operations Manager responsible for safely and efficiently carrying out planned and unplanned maintenance and repairs to the plant and equipment.

This role comes with a salary of circa £40,000 per annum doe.


Accountabilities

  • Provide a timely response to plant breakdowns.
  • Monitor any faults, breakdowns and damage reporting to the Operations Manager ensuring they are appropriately recorded.
  • Be skilled in welding, cutting and fabricating techniques.
  • Maintain plant and equipment to their CE approved standard.
  • Carry out planned and unplanned maintenance tasks liaising with recommended suppliers to limit downtime.
  • Completing and adhering to all safetyrelated documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with the Wharf team.
  • Undertake other duties as may be reasonably required.
  • Maintain a level of fitness to ensure safe Manual Handling techniques.

Skills and Experience (essential ongoing qualities):

  • Hold or working towards HNC / HND Engineering / NVQ 3 or equivalent.
  • Able to work well as part of a team.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Undertake a comprehensive range of mechanical works in the undertaking of maintenance, inspection, service and repair works to plant and equipment and to complete various service records.
  • Attend vehicle breakdowns and diagnose vehicle defects to determine serviceability.
  • Support apprentices and fitters mate by allocating duties, motivating and giving on the job training.
  • Maintain an up to date knowledge of new diagnostic systems and equipment used in the maintenance, inspection, testing and servicing of vehicles.
  • Undertake other duties appropriate to the grade of the post.
  • Ideally be qualified in or willing to work towards operating: forklift trucks, front end loaders (loading shovel) and other port related plant.
