These posts have been specifically created to provide Trust-wide professional leadership for AHPs.


Reporting to the Lead AHP, post holders will work collaboratively with key internal and external stakeholders to develop an informed and effective workforce for their AHP profession, ensuring registered and non-registered AHPs have the necessary competencies and skills to provide the best quality care in their roles.


The post holder will be responsible for leading on clinical supervision of the profession ensuring clinical governance with safe, responsive, and effective clinical interventions.


In addition, you will have the opportunity to lead on workforce transformation programmes for your profession including Apprenticeships, Preceptorships, Rotations, Clinical Placement Expansion (Fair Share Model), International Recruitment, Return to Practice and AHP Support Workforce Development.


This role will therefore provide you with the kind of development and experience you need to obtain a senior leadership role.

There are 5 posts available EACH post is 0.2 WTE for 12 months on secondment/fixed Term Contract

Will need line manager approval for secondment with backfill monies available for 12 months


The AHP Professional Lead will:


  • Chair the Trustwide profession specific Leadership Group
  • Represent the profession at senior management level in the Divisions
  • Be the single point of contact for the profession by using their professional expertise to support the development of the AHP workforce
  • Represent the profession with NHS England, Higher Education Institutions, Integrated Care Systems across London and Hertfordshire as well as the professional bodies
  • Represent the profession with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • Deputise for the Trust AHP Lead as appropriate

  • Provide Trustwide profession specific professional and clinical leadership
  • Lead the Clinical Leadership Network which coordinates and oversees the development and communication of profession specific guidance and education in line with Trust strategies and local policies as well as best available evidence nationally.
  • Interpret and evaluate information from diverse sources to make informed judgements about its quality, appropriateness for professional practice and service delivery.
  • Establish professional boundaries and resolve issues using negotiation skills, influencing and diplomacy with relevant stakeholders ensuring resolution of highly sensitive and contentious professional issues
  • Represent the Trust at internal and external AHP events as appropriate
  • Be directly responsible for providing clinical supervision for senior AHP staff also ensuring that suitable clinical governance is in place across the Trust and where required for our Integrated Care System (ICS) partners such as Primary Care Networks (PCNs).
  • Use expertise to support development of AHP workforce in line with NHSE initiatives, such as Apprenticeships, Preceptorship, Rotations, Clinical Placement Expansion, Return to Practice, International Recruitment and AHP Support Workforce Development.
  • Contribute to any disciplinary and capability concerns as required, including acting in a Lead AHP advisory capacity for trust wide disciplinary/capability hearings/investigations.
  • Demonstrate ability to reflect on ethical issues and provide guidance to junior staff.
  • Lead on development and integration of AHP policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Act as a role model for standards of behaviour and professionalism.
  • Comply with professional and HCPC standards for registration, maintaining personal standards of conduct and behaviour consistent with Trust policy, Values and Behaviours Framework and HCPC Standards and ensure all AHPs adhere to these standards.
  • Respect the individuality, values, cultural and religious diversity of patients and contribute to the provision of services sensitive to these needs
