Departmental profile


The Patient and Bereavement service are based in Trust Headquarters, their role is to support bereaved families after the death of a loved one in the hospital, manage inpatient valuables and review compensation claims within the trusts, The team work closely with the Bereavement nurse and the Bereavement Service Lead.

Brief job details


The main role of the Deputy Bereavement Officer is to support the Bereavement Officer to support bereaved families through the death certification process, planning public funerals, working and liaising with medical staff, Medical examiner office, funeral directors, the mortuary, the coroner, the registry of death office and the wards.

They will also support the road traffic collision compensation claims process. the team is also responsible for patient valuables

  • GCSE English and Math A-C
  • NVQ3 in Business Administration or social and health care or working towards
  • Experience of working in a caring environment and dealing with bereaved families
  • Organisational skill, flexible good IT skills

Supporting bereaved families with death certification process for all hospital deaths including adults and children

Working with the medical examiner office, mortuary, funeral director and coroner

Supporting junior doctors to complete MCCD

organising public funerals

Supporting road traffic collision claims
