An impressive Secondary School in the Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham are on the hunt for a Head of Careers for an ASAP start.

This is a full-time post, term time only + 2 weeks, permanent position.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • Degree or professional qualification
  • Good written & oral skills
  • Ideally previous experience within the role, but this is not essential
  • Knowledge of career paths and /or higher education & willingness to learn more
  • Must be able to motivate & inspire the younger generation

Developing and delivering programmes and schemes of work

  • With reference to the Head of Sixth Form/Head of PHSE, lead on the development and delivery of schemes of work for fortnightly Year 1113 careers lessons and occasional lessons in Year 713 PHSE/enrichment lessons
  • Liaise with the Head of PHSE to include careers related lessons within the programme for sixth formers; take on responsibility for planning and delivering sessions which are related to HE and careers
  • Liaise with suppliers to provide careers related online platforms for students.

Advice and guidance to students

  • If required, provide Year 9 students with advice on their GCSE options
  • Contribute to advice and guidance provided to students on their options post16 and 1
  • Organise and conduct oneto one Autumn Term interviews with Year 11 students
  • Organise the Spring Term professional interviews for Year 11 students
  • Advise on gapyear arrangements and advertise opportunities to students
  • With the Head of Sixth Form, advise students who may be interested in entering the workplace upon leaving school, e.g. degree apprenticeships and school leaver programmes
  • Set up and maintain students' digital careers profiles to e.g. OneNote, Morrisby
  • Maintain and update careers information on the school website, intranet and in the library.

Knowledge of careers and higher education guidelines, standards and options

  • Develop familiarity with, and up to date knowledge of, CIAEG guidelines, the Gatsby benchmarks (auditing via the Compass tool), UCAS and careers platforms such as Morrisby
  • Continually update own knowledge of higher education and careers matters
  • Attend external training, courses and conferences to ensure knowledge is up to date
  • Enrol as a member of the Careers Development Institute (CDI)
  • Complete the Level 6 Certificate in Careers Leadership with the CDI.

External activities, contacts, visits and speakers

  • Lead on the organisation of, and administration for, work experience opportunities and visits to and by employers and universities
  • Liaise with the local Enterprise Advisor and other professional organisations as necessary
  • Organise and promote suitable visits to local employers, including in STEM sectors
  • Organise for visiting speakers and employers to come to the school, ensuring all relevant safeguarding background checks are completed
  • Work with marketing and alumni office colleagues to access OWBA members for careers related activities
  • Lead on the management and smooth running of the Friday Careers Lunch pro
