Salary & Grade - Grade 7 National £49,592 - £58,769 / Grade 7 Inner London if based in London £53,396 - £62,286 per annum.


Location - The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) offers hybrid working - this means that whilst the role will be based in one of our offices, there will be opportunities for an element of working from home. UKHSA have office locations across the UK. This role can be based at one of our UKHSA offices/locations (West Midlands, East Midlands, Southeast, Southwest. Yorkshire and Humber, east of England & London)

The balance between home and workplace working is to be agreed with the line manager, determined primarily by business needs and in line with departmental policy.

Please be aware that this role can only be worked from within the UK and not overseas. Relocation expenses are not available.

JOB SUMMARY


We are seeking to recruit seven Senior Health Protection Practitioners for Border Health for an array of regions (West Midlands, East Midlands, South East, South West, Yorkshire and Humber, East of England & London).


This role is part of the UKHSA responsibility for communicable disease control and management of non-communicable environmental hazards Regional Health Protection Teams plan for and respond to all-hazard incidents at Ports and on aircraft and vessels entering the UK.


The Border Health Senior Health Protection Practitioner is a key member of the regional Health Protection Team and in addition contributes to the operational leadership and oversight of health protection at the Border, in their region.

They will work with local stakeholders; Port Health Authorities, Port Operators, Vessel/Aircraft operators, Border Force and UKHSA national colleagues to ensure that UKHSA Border Health responsibilities are delivered.

Internal collaboration with other staff working regionally on Border Health and the UKHSA National Border/Port Health Team will be important as will attendance at the monthly Border Health Leads network meeting.


The Border Health Senior Health Protection Practitioner as a key member of the multi-disciplinary health protection team will also provide and at times lead, the day-to-day acute service response.

They will play a lead role under supervision in the provision of a health protection service in relation to infectious and non-infectious environmental hazards.


The post holder will require demonstrable generic public health skills and will have specific lead areas of work involving partnership working with external organisations and will assist in the development of joint plans and system wide priorities for public health action or improvement.

The post holder will contribute to the strategic work of Border Health for the health protection team and deputise where appropriate.

The post holder may be expected to work across regional sites, providing operational oversight and development to the service.

Job description:


As the Senior Health Protection Practitioner your main responsibilities will include:

  • Contribute to and where required lead under supervision of the Principal/Advanced Practitioner/Consultant in HP the ongoing operational oversight of health protection at the Border.
  • Work with local Port(s) of Entry stakeholders to regularly review and agree actions and roles and responsibilities for managing 'all hazard' cases and incidents at the port(s).
  • Participate in regular meetings with stakeholders/Local Resilience Forums to build and maintain relationships and to provide updates and training relevant to UKHSA work, SOPs, Border Health Plans and emerging health protection hazards
  • Coordinate major incident / emergency response exercises with EPRR colleagues and local Port(s) of Entry stakeholders as needed to test the effectiveness of Border Health Plans.
  • Contribute to the wider Border Health Transformation Programme as required, developing national guidance and SOPs in collaboration and under the direction of the National Border Health Team
