This role is based in our Hackney Wick office full time.


Responsibilities

  • Create and enforce laboratory policies and standard operating procedures across our workstreams
  • Proactively manage the lab and make recommendations on best practices
  • Maintain laboratory stocks and consumables as needed, this includes following up on deliveries and troubleshooting when there are delays.
  • Organise small and large equipment purchasing, delivery, maintenance and training; coordinate with scientists to ensure safe working practices are maintained and equipment requirements are met
  • Work with our accountants to maintain timely payment of lab order invoices as well as necessary documentation to expedite delivery
  • Organise suppliers and manage the contracts for chemical waste disposal and laboratory cleaning.
  • Identify ways to improve how we work across the lab, collaborating with teammates in order to do this
  • Be the "go to" person for all things lab related
  • Lead and uphold Health & Safety for the lab and the wider office, in conjunction with other operational team members
  • Onboard new science staff to working in the lab including introductions to equipment and safe handling procedures
  • Pitch in across the firm for various operational tasks as requested

Required:

Experience:

  • Previous experience working in an operational role in a laboratory setting
Desirable
Experience:

  • Practical understanding of UK Health and Safety regulations and directives
  • Interest in synthetic biology, fermentation and/or food science
