Job description

Please contact Andrea Kulikovsky, in-patient therapy team leader;

Main duties
The post holder is responsible for delivering high-quality, evidence-based physiotherapy care as an autonomous practitioner within a rotational framework across Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust.

Clinically, the role involves undertaking comprehensive assessments of patients with a wide range of conditions, including complex and multi-pathology presentations, to formulate accurate diagnoses and deliver individualised treatment programmes. The post holder manages their own caseload independently within defined competencies, accessing senior support where required. Responsibilities include developing and progressing treatment plans, selecting and applying appropriate therapeutic interventions, evaluating patient outcomes, managing clinical risk, and contributing to effective discharge planning. The post holder represents physiotherapy within multidisciplinary team meetings to ensure coordinated, patient-centred care.

The role includes participation in a 7-day working pattern, contributing to weekend services to support timely rehabilitation and discharge. The post holder is also required to participate in the respiratory emergency evening on-call rota, responding to urgent referrals and providing acute physiotherapy input as required.

Professionally, the physiotherapist is legally accountable for their practice, maintains accurate and comprehensive clinical documentation in line with CSP and Trust standards, and ensures safe and competent use of physiotherapy equipment. The role includes supervision of assistants and students, contributing to appraisal processes, and supporting competency development within the team.

The post holder actively engages in continuing professional development, audit, research, service improvement initiatives, and in-service training. They adhere to Trust policies and values, maintain confidentiality, uphold health and safety standards, and contribute to the effective and efficient use of resources.

Organisationally, the physiotherapist is responsible for prioritising and managing their workload, adapting to service demands across Trust sites, and providing flexible cross-cover to maintain service continuity.

Overall, the role requires strong clinical reasoning, professional accountability, adaptability, and a commitment to delivering safe, effective physiotherapy care within a 7-day service model.
