MAJOR PURPOSE OF POST HOLDER

  • The job description refers to the principal duties and responsibilities of the Post. It does not necessarily list in detail all the tasks required to carry out these duties and responsibilities._
  • To provide advice and information to unpaid carers to enable them to access the services available to them
  • To manage a caseload consistent with responsibilities and grade
  • To provide high quality services to children, young people and their families/carers
  • To undertake Assessments and Care and Support Plans in line with the Social Services and Well Being (Wales)Act.
  • To contribute, where appropriate, to the management of Child Protection cases under the guidance of your supervisor
  • To refer and/or signpost unpaid carers not eligible to receive services from the Council to other agencies which may be able to meet their needs
  • As required and where appropriate to do so, to take part in emergency duty rotas/systems
  • To work in partnership with service users, carers, other professionals and agencies both internally and externally
  • To develop improved multidisciplinary working practices within the area of service.
  • To raise awareness and promote access to community services provided by other organisations to meet assessed needs.
  • To be aware of and have an understanding of all relevant legislation, guidance, policy and procedures, practice guidelines and national standards including the Wales Safeguarding Procedures, the Vale of Glamorgan Council Policy and Procedures Manual andthe Risk Management procedures for all children and young people.
  • To take personal responsibility for ensuring your knowledge is updated and forms part of your continuous professional development.
  • To maintain compliance with Departmental and Corporate Standards and procedures for assessments, planning and reviewing of individual casework, ensuring that individual care plans remain relevant and within available resources.
  • To attend a range of meetings, reviews and produce written reports where required to do so
  • To positively represent the Council and the Directorate in all meetings, reviews, and other forums
  • To actively participate in professional supervision with your designated supervisor in line with Council policy
  • To take professional responsibility for your continuous professional development with the support of your supervisor including identifying training needs and developmental targets
  • To actively participate in the annual itsaboutme process (appraisal)
  • To actively participate in team meetings including contributing to the development of the Team Plan and overall performance improvement of the team/service
  • To provide any information/reports as required by you supervisor and/or their line manager(s)
  • To be responsible for ensuring the use of available resources to meet identified needs in a flexible and efficient way
  • To maintain accurate records including casework information, case files and WCCIS
  • To assist the service in ensuring good standards of practice and performance are maintained and improved
  • To ensure compliance with the Council's Financial regulations, Standing Orders, Policies and Procedures
  • To implement the principles of the Council's Equal Opportunity policy whilst undertaking the above duties
  • To adhere to Health and Safety legislation and relevant Council policies and procedures and to take reasonable care for the health and safety of yourself and others who may be adversely affected by your acts/omissions.
  • To implement the principles of the Council's Environment Policy whilst carrying out all duties.
  • To report without delay any safeguarding concerns to the appropriate safeguarding officer.
  • Such other duties and responsibilities commensurate with the grade and in accordance with the general character of the job as may reasonably be required by the Chief Officer from time to time.
