The unit is a Continuing Healthcare nurse led facility, which accommodates 22 residents with complex and unpredictable physical healthcare needs e.g.

following an acquired brain injury or a diagnosis of a progressive neurological, respiratory, cardiac or renal disease.

We are able to care for patients in need of complex airway or feeding regimes, up to and including full invasive ventilation.


The accommodation and environment are designed to deliver flexible and person centered care for each person and we aim to create a "home from home" atmosphere for all our patients.

The Dermot Murphy Unit is based in the M20 locality of South Manchester close to the Metro and Bus links.

Built in its own beautiful grounds, this modern and purpose built unit has its own parking provided.


The therapeutic activity coordinator will lead on developing a therapeutic activity programme, facilitating groups and individual interventions and activities to support patients in their recovery goals.

The post holder will work as a member of the multidisciplinary team, liaising closely with nursing and therapy staff to design person centered activities contributing positively to the emotional and psychological wellbeing of patients.


Responsibilities would be to plan, organise and co-ordinate the Ward Activity Programme, including the timetabling and delivery of group or individual activities in line with ward and therapy timetables.

Be innovative in creating an engaging and varied suite of therapeutic activities including arts, music, reminiscence therapy and physical activities.

Engage proactively with third sector organisations and external partners to develop a variety of activities.


Build a therapeutic relationship with patients, relatives and carers to encourage their interest and participation in activities suited to their particular needs and interests, promoting independence and well being.


Manage the timetabling and delivery of group and individual activities working flexibly including evening and weekends where required in line with the patients therapeutic timetables.

Develop links with specialist practitioner i.e.

dementia specialist nurse and learning disabilities specialist nurse to develop bespoke activities for individual patients with specific needs, and tailored programmes for groups of patients with specific conditions.
