£24.50 per hour


Hours - Working on the bank means you are not contracted to a set number of hours per week but instead work on an ad-hoc basis to suit the needs of the business and your availability.

Our Physiotherapy team in North Staffordshire Hospital/Stoke FWC currently have an opportunity for a Specialist Hand therapist. Continue your journey with us whilst we'll support you to be your best.

As part of the team you will have clinical support available from your Regional clinical lead along with Physiotherapists, with leadership from the management team on site.

You will have a CPD budget to encourage you to continue your learning and striving for clinical excellence.

We can offer both part time and full time hours, with a mixture of face to face time across other sites or working from home delivering triage hours.

The Role


You will work at our Fitness and Wellbeing Centre, looking after patients who have had procedures at North Staffordshire Hospital.

Therefore the multidisciplinary team you are working within includes nurses and consultants.

  • Deliver high quality, effective clinical care.
Undertake advanced assessment in patients who have both routine and complex hand and wrist conditions as well as conditions masquerading as musculoskeletal pathology

Demonstrates advanced clinical reasoning skills in complex and unpredictable scenarios to ensure highest quality of care is delivered to patients

Demonstrate a proven track record of clinical speciality in appropriate manual therapy, splinting, and rehabilitative exercises.


Appropriately identifies and executes referrals to Specialists/Consultants when required including the use of internal escalation pathways for patients presenting with serious pathology.

Undertakes treatment underpinned by advanced clinical knowledge and skills to deliver high quality patient outcomes.

Completes complex case management to ensure high quality, clinical effective and cost efficient care is provided which satisfies the needs of patients, service commissioners and purchasers

Maintains relevant clinical skills and provides on-going evidence of personal CPD and Professional registration.

Ensures that all records are accurately maintained and conform to all professional body, legal requirements and the Nuffield Health clinical governance policies

Adheres to the information governance policy to protect patients data at all times

Acts as a role model and clinical expert to support colleagues and less experienced therapists to enhance clinical outcomes.

Effectively manage an Outpatient caseload, working within your scope of practice as an autonomous practitioner.


Make an active contribution to the marketing, promotion and development of the Hand Therapy service within the hospital, working closely with the marketing team, consultants and GP referrers.

The Person


To succeed as a Specialist Hand Therapist you will:

  • Have a BSc in Physiotherapy or equivalent, you'll be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council.
Have Significant work experience in Hand Therapy.

Relevant postgraduate training within the speciality of Hand Therapy

Experience of working with patients with a wide range of upper limb musculoskeletal pathology

Experience of working alongside orthopaedic/ rheumatology and plastics consultants

Advanced knowledge of upper limb musculoskeletal pathology, red flags and the biopsychosocial approach

Highly effective verbal and non-verbal communication skills

Case management experience - Upper Limb & Hands speciality
