Description

The Department of Social Anthropology is seeking to appoint one full-time Research Assistant/Associate to contribute to the research initiatives of the ESRC-funded 'Trading Mongolia's Sovereign Meat' (TMSM) research project based in MIASU, the Department of Social Anthropology, for a period of 21 months, from 1 December 2023 to 31 August 2025.

The project investigates meat production in Mongolia from an anthropological perspective, at a time when the country is looking to take advantage of growing meat consumption in China, its southern neighbour, and also to reduce the number of livestock on its pastures.

Encouraged by international development organisations, Mongolia is increasingly turning to intensified and export-orientated meat production; our project seeks to understand the economic and social transformations attendant upon this.

The primary aim of the post is to provide strategic support for the research aims and outputs of the project and carry out anthropological research involving periods of fieldwork.

Appointment at Research Associate is dependent on having a relevant PhD, including applicants who have submitted but not yet received their PhD (in which case appointment will initially be made at Research Assistant and amended to Research Associate when the PhD is awarded).

Please ensure that you upload your Curriculum Vitae (CV), a full list of publications and a covering letter, which should include a short summary of your research interests, explaining how you meet the criteria listed in the Further Particulars document.

Two references are required.
