Job summary:


51 Squadron have a requirement for Civilian Tool Issue Centre Operatives (TICO) within the forward Military Maintenance Organisation (MMO) at RAF Waddington.

This role will encompass daily control, issue and return of Hand Tools, Specialist Support Equipment and the issue / safe disposal of Fuel and Lubricant (F&L) products, whilst at all times maintaining control and custody of the complete inventory.

Additional responsibilities will include assistance to the Squadron Deployed Availability Cell (DAC) in the provision of all tooling and F&L to meet deployed Sqn requirements.

The role will be shift-based.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.


Job description:

The 51 Sqn TICO is responsible through the TICO Manager and 51 Sqn Management for ensuring all Tool Stores operations, specifically, they should:

  • Ensure the safe custody and control of all items held within the 51 Sqn TIC.
  • Always Ensure the security of 51 Sqn TIC and maintain access to authorised personnel only.
  • Conduct 100% accountability checks at start/ handover/ cease work to sufficiently account for all items held within the TIC.
  • Ensure the issue/ return of tools and equipment contained within the TIC are conducted.
  • Ensure general cleanliness and tidiness of the TIC at all times.
  • Control and safe custody of Sqn F&L products, including identification of any deficiencies for subsequent re-order, and the safe disposal / storage including the organisation of waste disposal.
  • Ensure all tool issues / returns / checks are correctly and accurately documented on the required paperwork in accordance with the relevant Instructions for use and additional policy.
  • Ensure all hand tools and specialist equipment are suitably maintained, correctly registered, calibrated as required and any unserviceable tools replaced as required.
  • Conduct independent assurance checks on a regular basis to ensure all tools are accurately registered, present and serviceable and their location if loaned / deployed is appropriately documented.
  • You will be required to work weekly shifts of earlies or lates, as directed by 51 Sqn Management. A working week will run from Monday to Friday inclusive.

Shift timings are as follows:

  • Health and Safety at Work.
You have the responsibility under the 1974 Health and Safety at Work Act, the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1992 and other associated regulations to:

a.

Comply with all instructions and procedures installed to ensure safety at work, taking proper care of any equipment provided for your health, safety and welfare at work.

b. Provide specialist advice as appropriate to your Line Manager in order to allow

proper risk assessment to be made.

c. Report all accidents, injuries and near-miss dangerous occurrences promptly to Line Management.


Person specification:


  • Good interpersonal skills will be required as you will be interacting with Sqn technicians from AS1 through to typically shift Flight Sergeants. An ability to read and act on policy and technical information to facilitate replacement of tooling and understand higher level policy on the standard of tooling, marking / etching and general tool control procedures. Basic IT skills with an ability to utilise MS Word and Excel to assist with updating Tool Store Documentation / F&L Safety Data Sheet information as required. An ability to work independently is paramount as this role is typically staffed by a single individual at a time, albeit with Line Manager support.
