Associated British Ports (ABP) are seeking a dedicated individual to join our team as a Deckhand (Maintenance) to work on our Spartina Workboat, at the prestigious Port of Southampton.

Purpose


Reporting into the Technician & Maritime Team Leader, you will be responsible operating as the deck hand on the dedicated maintenance workboat Spartina.

Under the day-to-day supervision of the Spartina coxswain, the role includes the carrying out of basis boat maintenance, preparation for seaborne taskings and the operation of the boats auxiliary systems when on task.


You will deliver a competent crewman to the coxswain of the Spartina to enable the safe and efficient operation of maintenance and repair tasks across the maritime assets.

Some working outside of normal hours may be required when operating outside of the limits of Southampton Water due to tide and current restrictions.

Travel outside of the port limits of Southampton will be required due to the range of tasks Spartina takes on.


Key Accountabilities

  • Ensuring Health and Safety policies are always adhered to.
  • Managing contractors on a daytoday basis for planned and reactive maintenance tasks and larger projects.
  • Building Stakeholder relationships both internal and external, meeting and striving to exceed their expectations.
  • Responsible for the planning and coordination of work tasks in the port of Southampton
  • Effectively communicate with all relevant internal departments and external Customers to ensure work tasks are undertaken with mínimal disruption to Operations.
  • Ensuring that ABP remain compliant by completing various work activities by a deadline.
  • Ensuring all Risk Assessments and Safe Systems of Work are up to date and relevant.

You should have a customer focussed approach to allow you to not only meet but exceed expectations. The key to your success will be communication, this is often a standalone role. It is critical you have the confidence to take control, influence and negotiate.


Skills, Experience & Qualifications

Essential

  • NVQ 2 Qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant Engineering discipline
  • Have a minimum of 2 years' experience operating in a maritime environment.
  • Good working knowledge of Health & Safety requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a small team, often in isolation.
  • Selfmotivated, able to work on own initiative.
  • Good communication skills both written and oral.
  • Negotiation skills and tenacity, ability to multitask in a fastmoving environment.
  • The ability to work under pressure to meet set deadlines.

Salary:
£28,000.00-£30,000.00 per year
