To take a lead role in the development, coordination and delivery of the Wellbeing Café which is a preventative mental health service delivered on behalf of Kent & Medway ICB from the Sunlight Centre.

The post holder will be expected to take lead responsibility for the operation of the Café when on site, working with SDT staff and others to provide a high quality first point of contact for community members attending the Wellbeing Café and actively contributing to the smooth and efficent running of the services provided.

The post holder will be expected to work closely with trust staff to ensure the health, safety and security of community members, the site and trust property.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • To take a lead role in the strategic development and delivery of the Wellbeing Café service
  • Coordination of the Wellbeing Café operations including but not limited to petty cash, facilities and resources.
  • Conduct referral meetings and risk assessments for potential beneficiaries.
  • Be part of the delivery team for the Wellbeing Café
  • Line Manage the Wellbeing Café
  • Ensure Wellbeing Café is staffed appropriately; provide holiday and sickness cover if required
  • Provide a welcoming and professional atmosphere to visitors and employees
  • Provide a welcoming and warm atmosphere for beneficiaries
  • Ensure attendance registers are maintained and practical and personalised support is offered to community members
  • Oversee and approve session planning to ensure that where relevant sessions relating to the improvement of health and wellbeing are on offer and available to community members
  • Provide practical and personalised one to one support to community members to enable them to set and achieve their own goals towards improved health and wellbeing
  • Keep and maintain accurate records and outcome related information, as required by their line manager and the terms of the Agreement with Kent & Medway ICB
  • Provide information and signposting to health, employment, housing, welfare advice, social care and other services in Medway
  • Liaise closely with the line manager regarding any concerns about the wellbeing or welfare of any person attending the wellbeing café, supporting an appropriate response as necessary
  • Undertake training and personal development relevant to the job role within the wellbeing café, which may include online training
  • Be familiar with, and competent in all aspects of building and site security, ensuring the security and safety of the site at all times. This will include monitoring CCTV, security, panic and fire alarms alarm systems and complying with site health and safety responsibilities
  • Take responsibility for closing the building as required ensuring relevant alarms are set and disabled, and site security is maintained at all times
  • Monitor and supervise entry to and exit from the building and grounds, outside of core opening hours, in respect of safety and security; reporting any serious issues or concerns to the oncall manager, as appropriate
  • Liaise with Trust staff, as necessary, to coordinate and deliver booking requirements, such as refreshments and food
  • Challenge the inappropriate behaviour or conduct of visitors to the site, in line with the Trust's values and ethos and ensuring Health and Safety procedures are by all building users
  • Be aware of and take responsibility for reporting health and safety issues on site, faulty equipment and taking remedial action to ensure the security and safety of building users
  • Be prepared to undertake the role of Fire Warden and First Aider (for which training will be provided) and relevant health and safety duties as required e.g. fire alarm call point checking

Person Specification

Essential Experience
Line management experience.

Experience of supporting people with mental health issues.

Experience of working as part of a mental health services delivery team.

Working with qualitative and quantitative data.


Desirable Experience
Facilities experience.

Experience of supporting people with lived experience of mental health issues.

Experience of working in a mental health or social care, housing, or education environment


Essential Skills and Abilities
Line management experience

Friendly and assertive, demonstrating the ability to take charge and use initiative appropriately.

Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills including listening and diplomacy.

Able to follow verbal and written instructions and to write clear and concise reports of incidents.

Ability to convert information to the level required for the target audience.


Ability to understand good customer care and be able to provide an excellent customer focus at all times and deal with conflicting priorities.

Ability to act on own initiative and seek guidance when required, successfully resolving and completing activities.

Be capable of meeting the physical demands of the role, including the safe moving/handling
