Description

As a Biomedical Support Worker you will provide basic scientific support across Blood Sciences This involves sorting samples (mostly but not exclusively blood) prior to testing, data entry, operation and simple maintenance of laboratory equipment.

You will carry out simple tests in accordance with defined procedures under the supervision of the scientific staff.


  • At all times to act in accordance with and adhere to laboratory and Trust procedures and protocols.
  • To rotate (after suitable training and competency testing) through all sections of Blood Sciences.
  • To carry out the pre analytical processing of samples received into the laboratories.
  • To enter results on to the laboratory computer system.

  • To rotate (after suitable training and competency testing) through all sections of Blood Sciences.

  • To enter results on to the laboratory computer system.
  • After suitable training, to carry out basic maintenance and preparation of the analysers.
  • To participate in rotas covering extended working day, Saturday and Sunday mornings and Bank Holidays as required.
  • To be responsible for the day to day running of the sample referral section.
  • To be aware of and support the goal of providing a quality driven patient centred service.
  • To rectify and or bring to the attention of more senior staff/Laboratory Management any issues compromising this goal.
  • To be courteous and professional when dealing with other health care professionals or patients.
