Plymouth Marjon has a proud 30-year history of graduating speech and language therapists and we are ready to welcome a new member of staff to our lecturing team.

Who we're looking for:

-Clinical expertise in paediatric speech, language and communication disorders.

  • Current HCPC registration as a Speech & Language Therapist.
  • Extensive clinical experience including experience of working with preregistration students.
  • Knowledge of current evidencebased practice and research in the field.

What you'd be doing:

This post will support the provision of speech and language therapy pre-registration education at Plymouth Marjon and will be part of our growing School of Health and Wellbeing including other AHP programmes.

The position of lecturer/senior lecturer consists of a range of teaching and learning activities supporting students across the programme and related departmental activities such as recruitment (including open days and interviews).

You will be required to work as part of a team of academics and practitioners across the school from various professional backgrounds and demonstrate the ability to teach professional education and clinical skills to the highest standards.

You will also undertake a range of student supervision/tutoring duties.

You will be expected to contribute to the University's research and knowledge exchange activities through your own research and by supporting undergraduate and postgraduate student research.

You'll need to enjoy:

  • Working closely with students, academic and professional colleagues.
  • Devising, developing and delivering a diverse range of teaching, learning and assessment activities.
  • Supporting students' professional development.
  • Using a range of approaches to support student learning including digital resources.
  • Working to your values: we care about how people behave as well as what they achieve.

Where you'll work:

In this role, you will be part of the Speech and Language Therapy department on our green campus in the north of Plymouth.

The University has a well-established reputation for its taught programme in Speech and Language Therapy and has a thriving on-site SLT clinic.

There will be opportunities for you to support student learning and clinical practice in this setting.

Our current hybrid working policy means you can work from home or on campus, but you will need to maintain strong campus links and be available on-site when needed, including for taught sessions.

Supporting our people:

At Marjon, we are firmly committed to supporting every member of staff who works for us.

Our Balance programme of health and wellbeing activities aims to help you to look after your physical health, nutritional health, mental health and social health.

We recognise that our recruitment might bring in staff who are new to higher education and are bringing knowledge and expertise from other fields and practice.

We want to ensure that all our academic staff are appropriately qualified to teach in HE and have the confidence to do so; to support this, we offer a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PGCAP) to all new teaching staff without an existing teaching qualification.

This provides our new staff with an opportunity to develop their understanding and practice of learning, teaching and pedagogic research/research management in higher education and enables us to maintain our high standards of teaching.

Closing date:
Tuesday 28 May 2024 (at 11:59pm)

Interview date:
Thursday 13 June 2024
