Description

Do you have a background in project management, civil engineering, or transport and have a passion for Active Travel? We are seeking a highly motivated and committed professional to join the BCP Council Sustainable Transport Team in South East Dorset.

BCP Council has made great strides in recent years to improve conditions for people walking, wheeling and cycling, and we need another forward-thinking person to join us and carry on this important and exciting work.

We have had great success in securing significant grant funding in recent years from Active Travel England and the Department for Transport, with £multi-million projects currently underway including our Transforming Travel programme.

As BCP Council's Senior Cycling and Walking Officer you will oversee a variety of Active Travel-related projects, often liaising with Engineering colleagues to ensure that new schemes comply with the latest design standards.

You will also support sustainable transport policy development and design by providing professional advice on matters related to cycling and walking.

Furthermore, you will respond to relevant queries and requests from members of the public and Councillors and help prioritise and plan future network improvements.

This will all help the Council meet its objectives around carbon reduction and modal shift and enabling safe and convenient journeys for residents.

Successful applicants will:

  • Have extensive experience in the successful delivery of projects, preferably with direct experience of sustainable transport initiatives.
  • Demonstrate evidence of uptodate knowledge and understanding of relevant design standards and an appreciation of how these can be applied to local situations using creativity and pragmatism to enhance the pedestrian and cyclist experience.
  • Understand the need for, and barriers to, travel behaviour change and modal shift.
  • Have excellent communication skills (oral and written), be prepared to share ideas and comfortable presenting to a wide range of audiences including colleagues, elected Members and industry professionals.
  • Have a 'can do' attitude.
This authority is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the
community and expects all staff and volunteers to share the same commitment.
Applicants to this post will be required to complete the appropriate level of
Disclosure & Barring Service Check. Please refer to the Person Specification for
more details.
