Purpose of the post

  • Ensure that the people of Gwynedd are at the heart of everything we do.
  • To ensure that the physical and emotional welfare of the users are met by operating individual User Plans. To ensure that a comfortable and clean environment is maintained in the home. This will all be done by following the Council's guidelines and policies. Responsibility for the residents during the night time in the absence of the manager.

Responsibility for functions

  • To respect and use all equipment and apparatus in the home appropriately. To notify the manager or the person with responsibility for the home at the time as soon as possible of any deficiencies in any equipment, or utilities (water, electricity, gas etc.). To ensure appropriate management of user's property e.g. medicine and cash.

Main duties

  • To ensure that the dignity and independence of the service users are respected through good care practices and in accordance with the National Minimum Standards for Care Homes for Older People.
  • To be sensitive to the need to respect the rights of individuals at all times.
  • To maintain confidentiality on all aspects of the home's activities.
  • To be part of the process to plan, prepare, implement and review the individual user's plan.
  • To act as a key worker for a specified number of service users and attend review meetings and case conferences of those users and contributing written and oral reports.
  • To undertake cleaning and laundry duties.
  • To prepare meals and drinks as required and serve the meals.
  • To undertake the task of receiving and distributing medicine in accordance with the Council's policy.
  • To attend training courses and NVQ Level 2 particularly. And ensuring a consistent awareness of care issues.
  • To attend meetings in accordance with the guidance of the Registered Home Manager
  • To familiarise with implementing the Council's policies, procedures and guidelines regarding good practices and matters involving Health and Safety.
  • When coming on duty, to familiarise with the general condition of all residents and the latest situation within the home.
  • To receive new users into the home in emergency circumstances.
  • To register with the Care Council in accordance with national guidelines.
  • Responsibility for selfdevelopment.
  • Ensure compliance with Health and Safety rules in the workplace in accordance with the responsibilities noted in the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Council's Health and Safety Policy.
  • Operate within the Council's policies and procedures in relation to equal opportunities and equality.
  • Responsible for managing information in accordance with the Council's information management guidelines. Ensure that personal information is treated in accordance with Data Protection legislation.
  • Commitment to reducing the Council's carbon emissions in accordance with the Carbon Management Plan, and to encourage others to act positively towards reducing the Council's Carbon Footprint.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duty which corresponds to the salary level and responsibility level of the job.
  • Responsibility to report any worry or suspicion that a child or vulnerable adult is being abused

  • The need to work unsociable hours.
