Band 2 Receptionist (CAT 3A - Urology)

This is a full-time position for 37.5 hours per week (Monday - Friday; 8-4).

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the urology Clinical Admin Team (CAT) as Urology Receptionist.


The post holder will be responsible for delivering an effective and efficient support service to the Urology Department, assisting in the provision of quality patient care.

This will include general clerical and administrative duties that support the administrative elements of the entire patient pathway.


The post holder will have skills in all areas of administrative functions to enable them to support the patient pathway.


The receptionist will have the ability to perform complex administrative functions and will be responsible for receiving patients and visitors attending outpatient clinics taking ownership of escalated administrative issues where appropriate.


The receptionist works in close partnership with medical, nursing and secretarial staff to ensure the smooth running of the outpatients department.

  • To act as receptionist at the clinic; to promote a business like, but friendly and supportive role to all visitors and patient attending the unit.
  • Preparation of hospital clinic lists for outpatient appointments and ensuring that referral letters are available for the appointment.
  • To receive phone calls to the unit; to take initial action; to liaise with other staff within the Department and Trust as appropriate.
  • To identify and obtain medical records and/or X-rays, as appropriate, for patients attending the various clinics, to liaise with other departments and other hospitals to facilitate this.
  • To check patients in and out of clinics using the Trust IT system.
  • Responsible for making follow-up clinic appointments and informing the patient of this verbally and in writing.
  • Responsible for keeping the work environment safe and organized.
  • Booking transport for patients where required.
  • To work in any clinic as requested by the Operational Manager.
