As a team at the Celia Blakey Day unit we are working hard to ensure we put patients and families at the heart of everything we do.

We provide care gold standard care to patients and families receiving systemic anti-cancer treatments.
Receiving a Cancer diagnosis is often one of the most daunting moments of a person's life.

However, at Celia Blakey we aim to provide personalised and holistic care, whilst making the Unit a warm and welcoming environment.

By providing friendly smiles and supportive care are aim is to make the journey slightly easier for both the patient and their family.

We work closely with consultants, Macmillan nurses, acute oncology and many other professionals to ensure the best outcome is achieved.


  • It is the post holder's personal responsibility to adhere to the Trust's and statutory policies.
  • Recognise and report problems to appropriate senior staff
  • To assist in the provision of quality care and be involved in the measuring of standards
  • Be prepared to take on the responsibility of a link role appropriate to the clinical area
  • To maintain a successful relationship with the unit manager and other members of the team, participate in team meetings and join in exchange of information and ideas, being involved in the decisionmaking process
  • To participate in communication with patient and carers that promotes patient choice, ensuring patient confidentiality is maintained at all times
  • To offer emotional support, bearing in mind the differing reactions of patients to their diagnosis and illness, reporting any physical or psychological issues to the appropriate member of staff
  • To have a positive attitude towards change and recognise the need to be able to alter practice to meet the demands of patient/service.
  • To provide support to the Nursing team. To ensure the maintenance of high standards of patient care in response to service needs

  • Assist with the induction, supervision, training and development of Band 2 Healthcare Assistants under the supervision of a registered nurse
  • Undertake further training to develop the role as required
  • To undertake observations using appropriate equipment, e.g BP monitor, glucose monitor etc and ensure correct recording of observations. Recognising when these results are outside of safe limits for that patient and reporting to a senior member of staff appropriately
  • To contribute to the delivery of patients' individual care under the direct or indirect supervision of a registered nurse
  • Demonstrate a level of skill and understanding which enables you to undertake specific tasks delegated by the nurse in charge and in accordance with relevant procedures, guidelines and policies. Undertake both routine and specially identified tasks for which they have been trained and assessed as competence.
