Main Duties and Responsibilities Clinical and Leadership Ensure effective communication and develop proactive working relationships between Stockport NHS Foundation Trust and Midwifery programme providers from HEIs as required and work as an integral part of the midwifery practice education team.

Link into the student Midwives during their training to support the transition from student to newly qualified Midwife, preceptorship programme and employment opportunities at Stockport.

In collaboration with the Practice Based Educator Midwife develop appropriate strategies and provide a structured orientation and training programme to support and meet the needs of students transitioning to newly registered Midwives.

Ensure they merge with the needs of staff and clinical risk priorities.


Ensuing there is a Practice Retention and Recruitment Midwife to support the foundation period for newly qualified midwives and Internationally Educated Midwives, in promoting high quality patient care and recruitment and retention of staff.

Work with the Practice Based Educator team to facilitate and support clinical and educational programmes for all preceptees within the first year of qualification and undergraduate student midwives on placement.

Working across all areas of the maternity services act as a visible resource of support and advice for newly registered midwives and learners in practice.

Share best practice examples across the Division and Trust, and regionally.


Working with the Practice Based Educator team to ensure staff meet NMC regulatory requirements and are trained to deliver the highest standard of education support to students, learners and newly registered midwives.

Promote and practice evidence-based midwifery care. Promote professional practice, education and training in line with relevant research.

Develop and maintain effective links with ward managers, senior clinical midwives supporting practice education and recruitment events for new students and the implementation of the curriculum in clinical placement areas.

Assessing clinical and other practice educational environments within own organisation.

Developing and supporting preceptors in decisions relating to the preceptee experience including the achievement of learning outcomes, competence, and fitness for practice.

Identifying shortfalls in preceptorship across a range of learning environments and facilitate access to multi-professional preceptorship programmes, updates, and training opportunities.

Providing best practice advice and learning environment in a clinical setting for preceptors, supervisors, and assessors in relation to preceptorship and education in practice.

If successful this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £41.90.

This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salaryIn addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £13.
