Student Funding Adviser


Working within the newly opened Centre for Student Life it is an exciting time to work in Cardiff University's Student Life Division.


  • This role will be working within the Student Funding & Advice team which is part of Student Advice and Money within Student Life. We are seeking to recruit an experienced Student Funding Adviser with a background in providing professional advice and guidance, to students and visitors, regarding student funding and welfare advice.
  • To be successful you will have knowledge and understanding of student funding systems and welfare services. You will be required to provide advice on undergraduate and postgraduate funding for Home and EU students both prospective and current (including Healthcare funding) and in accordance with the University's Widening Participation remit. Your duties would include a range of matters including, but not limited to, advising students considering changing, suspending or leaving their course and the impact on their funding, fees and on the University process. You will be expected to keep up to date with all relevant legislation relating to student finance and the University academic regulations, policies and procedures.
  • You will also be responsible for delivering relevant talks, workshops, publications and key messages to students, the public and staff throughout the University.
  • You will be working within the wider Student Advice and Money team which also includes Student Visa Support and Student Money Support. Student Advice and Money is part of the Student Life Division with exciting opportunities to work collaboratively and as part of multidisciplinary teams on a range of student focused projects
  • The post is full time, 35 hours per week, and open ended

Salary:

£36,333 - £43,155 per annum (Grade 6)

Key Duties

  • Provide professional advice and guidance on student finance and student welfare processes and procedures to internal and external customers that will have institute wide impacts, using judgement and creativity to suggest the most appropriate course of action where appropriate, and ensuring complex and conceptual issues are understood
  • Take responsibility for resolving issues independently within the Student Funding and Advice Team where they fall within set role objectives
  • Investigate and analyse specific issues within student funding and welfare, creating recommendation reports, supported by advances within student support.
  • Ensure that the provision of student funding advice is delivered to the institution's staff, students and prospective students, proactively changing the delivery according to customer requirements using creativity and judgement
  • Establish working relationships with key contacts, developing appropriate communication links with the University's Schools/Directorates and outside bodies as required
  • Develop and deliver training and presentations on student finance and welfare related issues
  • Undertake a variety of administrative duties to support the department including accurate case notes, statistical records, evaluation and updating of information
  • Instruct and guide other employees across the University about student finance and welfare issues
