Key Roles and Responsibilities:

Evidencing Quality To be an active member of the hospice assurance processes including the Clinical Governance Group and the Governance Committee.

Use recorded and collated information to produce quarterly and annual quality assurance and information reports for the hospice Governance Committee.

Manage the process by which evidence based clinical policies and procedures are written, maintained, reviewed and updated. Utilising a robust system of version control and storage.

Ensure all systems are statutorily compliant, promote best practice and national standards. Take a lead role in the further development of the Vantage system for recording and managing events and incidents.

Lead on the use of the Outcome Assessment and Complexity Collaborative (OACC) outcome measures and other outcome measures across the clinical services, working closely with relevant Clinical Leads and OACC Champions to ensure that OACC measures remain embedded in practice and used to inform patient assessment.

Support the development of quarterly and annual outcome measures reports and the feedback to staff.


Actively participate in the Hospice UK Patient Safety Benchmarking project, ensuring accurate information is inputted on a quarterly basis and benchmark project data used to produce annual reports.

Support the mechanisms for robust collecting and recording of data and information about service provision to inform internal and external reporting.

Support the setting of the annual clinical audit cycle and ensure clinical audits/re-audits are completed accordingly. Take the lead on some clinical audits as agreed with the Head of Clinical Care & Education.

Support the response to appropriate regional and national audits and surveys.

Support the Head of Clinical Care & Education in meeting the requirements of the CQC such as regular monitoring, reporting and preparation for inspections.

Support the Head of Clinical Care & Education in the handling of complaints where required. Support the hospice Practice Educator and Education Group to identify additional clinical staff educational needs.

Clinical Care and Communication Promote evidence-based practice and participate in professional discussion. Communicate effectively with staff, volunteers and visitors across the hospice services, fostering and maintaining good working and therapeutic relationships. Professional Operate at all times within the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code (if applicable). Meet the requirements of NMC revalidation with evidence of continued ability to practice safely and effectively (if applicable).

Ensure compliance with GDPR and data protection policies, Health and Safety requirements, general and clinical mandatory training. Actively participate in individual performance review. Promote a culture that respects and values diversity, and supports patients, visitors and staff in exercising their rights. Foster an environment and service that strives to reflect the diversity of individual needs within the Hospice.


General Responsibilities Additional Duties in discussion with the Head of Clinical Care & Education to undertake work as and when required in support of St Marys Hospice clinical services.

Public Relations to represent the Hospice in the community and public domain appropriately, upholding the hospice reputation. The role may include line management of other staff/volunteers.
