The Refugee Employment Network
The Refugee Employment Network (REN) has a membership of over 350 refugee integration support organisations, employers and local authorities from across the country.
Main purpose of the role
Why we do it
- Refugee employment is the biggest factor in the successful integration of refugees in the UK, yet refugee unemployment rates are estimated at three times above the national average up to 80% in some regions. Refugee underemployment and labour exploitation are also significant issues.
- The general lack of delivery and coordinated support from national employment services means that refugees coming to the UK with qualifications, skills and workexperience are often not recognised and valued in the labour market.
- In turn, the UK labour market is missing out on the skills and talents of refugees.
- Facilitate connections between employers and local, regional and national service providers through refugee employment event, our national jobs board website and mentoring partnerships. 82% of our membership wants to access opportunities for refugees looking for work.
- Share best practice of refugee employment and retention, and provide general guidance for our members to create and attain standards for meaningful and long lasting refugee employment. This includes information and training to support refugees into employment.
- Leverage resources and seek financial support to fund meaningful job creation and employment support programmes for refugees.
