Substance Misuse Advisor OOH

Permanent, Full Time. 4-night rota - Mon-Sun working 38 hours per week between 22:00 - 08:00.

Serco has a exciting opportunity for Substance misuse advisor to work from home for Public health England the role itself it an out of hours role.


Substance Misuse Adviser primary role is to provide information on all aspects of substance misuse to the general public via telephone helpline and promote key messages on risk reduction as defined by Public Health England client.


To signpost service users to appropriate services for their needs and assist them beyond any barriers in accessing these services.

They must be non-judgemental, calm, able to explain complex medical concerns in a simple and straight forward way and demonstrate a respectful and proactive approach to the needs of those in groups of inclusion.

What you'll need to do the role:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including a confident telephone manner with the ability to engage and build rapport quickly with people to assess their needs in a timely manner
  • The ability to adhere to a defined remit and work to service and professional boundaries
  • Emotional maturity and selfawareness
  • Ability to handle the sensitive nature of calls/contacts to the service with empathy, professionalism, and a nonjudgemental approach.
