IT Services at The University of Manchester is a diverse, fast-moving department that provides the technology that helps the University further its world-leading reputation.

We're currently looking to recruit an experienced Linux Systems Administrator in the Storage, Unix & Web Infrastructure team to join us on our journey.


The Team


The division of Technology leads and owns the University's IT infrastructure and platforms and is accountable for a comprehensive approach across all areas of the University and its international centres.

The division is comprised of four departments (Infrastructure Services, IT Operations Centre, Platforms and Infrastructure Programmes) and oversight of strategic managed services contacts.


The Role

  • Managing the institution's Linux estate ensuring it delivers a reliable, secure platform to deliver services from.
  • Undertaking proactive monitoring and analysis, resolving problems, and escalating as appropriate.
  • Providing input on Technical Architecture to continuously improve all elements of the IT Infrastructure.

The Person
We are looking for a proactive and experienced Linux systems administrator to join the team. This role will be primarily focused on the management of storage platforms.

Essential

  • Experience of the administration of the Dell EMC storage systems Isilon, Powermax in a large enterprise environment.
  • Experience managing Linux servers in an enterprise environment, particularly Redhat, Ubuntu and CentOS distributions.
  • Experience of using highlevel programming, scripting, orchestration, and automation technologies (Python, Bash, Ansible, Puppet, etc.)
Desirable

  • Experience managing and configuring LAMP Stack, (Apache, MySQL, PHP/Perl/Python)
  • Experience of the implementation and management of the Oracle SPARC servers and the Solaris Operating System
