Principal Estimator - York

The Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) aims to deliver faster, longer, more frequent and more reliable services across the north of England, from Newcastle, Hull and York towards Manchester and Liverpool via Leeds.


The aim of the TRU Alliance is to transform the East of Leeds route allowing people to travel faster, more reliably and in greater comfort between the North's great cities.

Providing passengers with more choice, more seats and better facilities on a safer,cleaner, more environmentally friendly railway.


We are recruiting for a Senior Estimator to join the team at our York office and work as part of our Integrated East of Leeds Alliance.

This will be a varied and busy role that will offer continued development along with interesting work packages that willkeep you challenged and engaged on a day to day basis.

Take-offs and design technical work scopes will be provided from within the Alliance
- the Senior Estimator will then work alongside the Project Managers and CREs in the production of robust cost estimatesfor the civils (Murphy) scope elements.


What you will be doing:


  • Provides cost estimating guidance and direction to the Project team
  • Plans and works proactively with the other functional departments to identify priorities and expedites cost estimate input data to achieve the planned completion date and qualit
  • Reviews contractual documents and contract modifications to determine scope of work and scope change
  • Produce enquiry schedules for scope of works & packages required from the tender documentation, drawings and specifications issued
  • Identify tender deliverables required from the Project Designers
  • Evaluate returned quotations from suppliers and where necessary enters into correspondence with suppliers to bring quotations in line with the project specification requirements
  • Prepare BOQ for scopes of projects on estimating programs (Excel & CCS Candy)
  • Input to project risk register and attends a project risk meeting in the presence of Estimators, Planning Engineers, Design Coordinators and Clients representatives.
  • Attend Tender Handover meetings in the presence of Estimators and projects team.
  • Assist the Estimating Manager in working with the site commercial team to ensure budgets & programs are reflective of actual delivery experience.

Who we are looking for

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in a related discipline or experience in field
  • Proven successful estimating experience major engineering projects, including undertaking role of an estimator
  • Skilled in apprising management and client for the quality and risks of conceptual and detailed estimates
