Research Events Executive

Location:

Stratford, London (high flex - we would expect you to be in the office 1 to 2 days per week).

Some events require working extended hours and travel around the UK, and potentially internationally.


Salary:
£27,000 - £32,000 pa depending on experience + benefits

We are looking for a Research Events Executive to join the Research, Brand and Communications team on a fixed term basis for 12 months.

About the team


Cancer Research UK is among the largest funders of cancer research in Europe, supporting 4,000 researchers, doctors and nurses in 90 different institutions across the UK and internationally.

In 2021 our spend on research activity totalled more than £300m.


It is the role of the Research Brand and Communications team to engage with the world's greatest scientific minds - informing, facilitating, and inspiring them to join us to beat cancer sooner, as well as, assisting specialised teams to cultivate partnerships and collaborations with our organisation, on a personal and industrial level.

We use a bold and dynamic approach to how we communicate with our research community and industrial partners.

What will I be doing?


In this role, you will provide event and communication support to the Research Brand and Communications team, to deliver a portfolio of professional events and webinars which attract experts and key-decision makers from around the globe.


Key duties include:

  • Work closely with two Event Managers and the Senior Event Manager to support the planning and delivery of a portfolio of c.20 virtual and facetoface events per year.
  • Coordinate the daytoday administrative running of events and webinars including data entry, delegate bookings and tracking, delegate correspondence, and updating the website.
  • Support on all financial administration of events, including raising invoices and purchase orders and settling speaker expenses and refunds.
  • Working with the Senior Manager, prepare high quality event communications and all onsite materials for events, including joining instructions, badges and signin sheets, ensuring all material is aligned with our branding guidelines and are timely, professional and engaging. Be the first point of contact for delegate queries.
  • Liaise with high profile speakers and CRUK leadership when needed to ensure all travel and accommodation requirements are met in advance of the event.
  • Liaise with venues, suppliers, travel agencies and coordinate any travel requirements to and from events for the R&I directorate.
  • Plan and deliver targeted scientific meetings and webinars, working closely with an internal content leads and external programme committees.
  • Organise our exhibitor attendance at external events working closely with designers, suppliers and teams across R&I to coordinate requirements.
  • Attend and provide support at events (UK & International).
What skills are we looking for?


We are looking for a self-starter with excellent communication skills, a strong attention to detail and a true passion for working in events.


You will bring to the role:

  • Experience in the delivery of events, conferences or exhibitions
  • Experience of working across several projects with conflicting deadlines
  • Experience of working with multiple stakeholders
  • Ability to work with mínimal supervision and to take decisions rapidly when needed, while knowing when to seek guidance and support
  • Willingness to work outside normal office hours. Some events require weekend work and travel around the UK, and potentially internationally
  • A passion for Cancer Research UK and events/event management
  • Educated to a degree level/equivalent or an event management qualification/equivalent is desirable
  • Administration and IT skills (proficient in word, outlook and excel)
