The Company
First Step Cycle, part of the First Step Sports Group is a cycle training organisation specialising in the delivery of on road cycle training for all ages including; Bikeability levels 1, 2 and 3, community and adult cycle training.
First Step Cycle are one of the Yorkshire region's leading cycle training and events specialists, with extensive knowledge and hands on experience, with a dedicated in-house team of talented, qualified trainers and event professionals.
The Position
We are seeking a Cycle Instructor, to work as required as part of a team to deliver fun, safe and informative Bikeability Training for pupils aged 9 years and older against the strict guidelines set in the National Standard by the Department of Transport.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with the delivery of National Standard Cycle training as organised by First Step Sports.
- Drive a company van to sessions, load and deliver cycle equipment
- Complete course paperwork including registers, assessments, course reports and results.
- Complete risk assessments of the trainees, cycles, and the training area (including onroad locations).
- Collection of consent forms at the start of training sessions.
- Accountable for the safety and welfare of colleagues and trainees.
- Ensure training is delivered in line with First Step Sports' health and safety policy with an awareness of accident and incident reporting procedures.
- Enable trainees to cycle safely, promoting cycling as a means of transport and a fun, healthy activity.
- Research and continuously develop skills.
- Assist with Cycle promotion/development
- Dress professionally
- In line with the First Step Sports Uniform.
- Adhere to the First Step Sports Delivery Standards.
Knowledge and Experience Requirements
- Complete a Level 2 1st4Sport Award in Instructing Cycle Training Qualification (Training is provided)
- Regular and competent cyclist.
- Understanding and awareness of road and traffic environments.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all trainees including children, parents and schools.
- Be decisive, maintain good discipline, inspire confidence and give encouragement.
- Be enthusiastic about cycling with an understanding of cycling as a sport, means of transport, leisure pursuit and healthy form of exercise
- First Aid and Child Protection Training (Desirable training can be provided).
- Understand basic cycle maintenance (Desirable).
- 1 years' experience with children; teaching or voluntary (Desirable)
- GCSE Maths and English.
