I am recruiting for a local authority to support the Service Manager (Housing Options) in securing the continuous development, improvement, efficiency and success of the Community Wellbeing Department as a whole, and more specifically in achieving prevention and relief targets as well as full duty acceptance targets as set out yearly in the Housing Needs Business Plan and/or appraisal objectives.

The work will include the implementing of operational plans within the service area to fit with broader functional and Council strategy.

Main Accountabilities


To manage a team of Officers with mixed skills and responsibilities including but not limited to: homelessness prevention, homelessness relief, homelessness assessments, tenancy sustainment/settlement, domestic abuse specialist, visiting and mediation specialist and booking and cancellation Officers.


The Homelessness Prevention and Relief Team Leader will ensure the delivery of intensive, specialist support to homeless clients and those in housing needs.

Ensure applicants who approach the Council in housing need are interviewed to determine what statutory duties may be triggered.

Ensure achievement of Officer targets and thus the Team targets and other measurable outcomes.


Maintain up to date expert knowledge of the different housing options available to service users and systems of accessing housing of all types including the private rented sector.

Manage the delivery of the Housing Needs Out Of Hours Service.


Lead and facilitate the provision of Housing Options and Advice surgeries within the community throughout the borough as may be required from time to time.


To lead on the Council's statutory duties to prevent, relieve and assess all homelessness and ensure a focus on the sustainment of existing tenancies/licenses.

This will include ensuring all service users have a Personal Housing Plan (PHP) that takes into account their individual circumstances and ensuring that the plans are kept under review and the actions the Council have agreed to take are followed through in a timely manner to keep the Council legally safe.
