About the role:


We are a successful Further Education (FE) team based at the Kedleston Road campus in Derby which has a clear vision to make sure our students are prepared for the rigours of an undergraduate degree.


We are looking to recruit an individual to teach adults on our Foundation Pathways Programme, which is designed for students who do not have the relevant qualifications to start an undergraduate degree, or mature students who have been out of education for a long period.


You will have a passion for teaching and be able to plan, teach and assess qualifications to the highest level, providing our students with an exceptional learning experience.

You will also assess and record students' progress on a regular basis and deliver effective lessons using a range of online platforms (for example Microsoft teams).

Our tutors will need to be adaptable, creative and resourceful in the face of the current challenges in education.

We are a team of around twenty teaching staff, and many have either industry experience or postgraduate qualifications such as a master's or a PhD.

You will work closely with the rest of the team to ensure that learners receive a high level of teaching and learning.

Actual hours and days will be described in a 'Schedule of Work'.


Principal accountabilities:


  • To assess and record students' progress on a regular basis by appropriate means e.g. marking, internal verification, learning agreements, action plans etc.
  • To respond to the personal and social needs of students in the learning situation.
  • To prepare programmes of work and lesson plans, set assignments, tests, examinations, marking schemes.
  • To ensure that all appropriate administrative records are accurately completed and maintained in accordance with College procedures, e.g. enrolment forms, attendance registers, student Individual Learning Agreements.
  • To ensure that students behave in a responsible manner to a high standard of safety in classrooms, practical areas and around the College and University campus.
  • To comply with the requirements of Health & Safety, other relevant legislation and College documentation.
  • To comply with copyright and software licensing legislation and related University procedures.
  • To undertake appropriate training and Continuing Professional Development activities as requested by the Curriculum Leader.
  • To work with support staff, programme and course teams as appropriate.
  • To ensure that the College's Quality Assurance Procedures are completed and actioned.
  • To contribute to the marketing activities of the College.
  • To comply with the requirements of Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults, Prevent, Health and Safety and other University and College policies including Equal Opportunities, Risk Management and Equality and Diversity
  • Attendance at the following Boards/Meetings, where it is appropriate and where meetings can be arranged to fit in with other commitments: Development meetings, Probation and Development Review, Course/Team meetings, Any relevant meetings associated with internal and/or external periodic scrutiny (e.g. OFSTED)
  • All staff should be aware of the importance of their own and the University's joint responsibility to safeguard and promote the wellbeing of children and vulnerable adults.

Qualifications:


  • Hold or be willing to undertake a Level 3 teaching qualification e.g. Certificate in Education.
  • Level 2 Qualifications (either in Functional Skills or GCSE A-C) in both English and maths or a willingness to achieve within an agreed timescale.
  • Relevant vocational qualification.

Experience:


  • Demonstrable evidence of ability to engage with learners to support high quality learning outcomes.
  • Demonstrable experience of teaching/facilitating level 3 Business to adults.

Skills, knowledge & abilities:


  • Highly developed communication skills.
  • Ability to use own initiative.
  • Ability to work effectively on your own and with a small team.
  • Welldeveloped administrative and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work flexibly within a team.
  • Good time management skills.
