As we continue to adopt a holistic approach to our services, we are currently working in partnership with Stella's Voice to develop a food growing space in the Peterhead area.

As part of our plan to reduce the need for emergency food, we are looking to employ a Community Garden Coordinator to develop the growing space, engage with the local community as well as planning the sustainability of the project.

You will be responsible for ensuring that the garden is used to provide multiple benefits such as developing skills, knowledge & confidence, environmental awareness, mental & physical wellbeing and access to healthy, sustainable food.


Key responsibilities
-
Garden Space_

  • Ensure the garden is maintained & developed to a high standard
  • Coordinate with external contractors where necessary
  • Ensure maintenance of garden related equipment
  • Ensure correct health and safety procedures are followed at all time

Volunteers & Participants_

  • Recruit and support a team of volunteers for the community garden and allotment
  • Build positive relationships with volunteers and participants
  • Work with the Sustainable Food Coordinator to investigate the feasibility of establishing a partnership with the aim of developing a market garden
  • Ensure that the local community are represented in decision making processes
  • Work towards achieving positive economic, environmental and social outcomes

Reporting_

  • Report to the Foodbank Managers regularly and provide written summary reports monthly.
  • Advise the Foodbank Manager immediately of exceptional events, such as complaints, press contacts, accidents, external evaluations, or risk to reputation.
  • Advise the Foodbank Manager of any employment or workrelated issues involving foodbank volunteers.
  • Report to Foodbank Managers on materials required.

Key skills

  • Experience in food growing and/or landscaping but not essential
  • Good oral communication
  • A keen interest in nature and outdoors
  • Experience in social media/ marketing
  • Ability to work independently and unsupervised
  • Time management skills and the ability to prioritize work
  • Attention to detail and problemsolving skills
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask
  • Good listener & empathy with client group and volunteer staff
  • Basic understanding of environmental, economic and social issues.

  • There are no formal education requirements for this post however some basic reading may be required.

Training

  • Induction, Health & Safetytraining
  • Child/Vulnerable adult protection as appropriate

You would need to have broadband at home and be willing to undertake home working health and safety assessment.

Job Types:
Full-time, Part-time, Temporary contract

Contract length: 12 months

Part-time hours: per week


Salary:
£12.00 per hour
