We are seeking an individual to work as a Senior Materials Engineerin one of our Areas in close coordination with the Delivery, Quality, Environment and overall Materials Team.

Role Responsibility

  • Provide Technical support to the Area Materials Engineers / Assistant Materials Engineers.
  • Advise the Project Team about material performance, specification, and best use.
  • Assist with managing the Project's Materials Acceptance Process.
  • Ensure that materials specified by the design are compliant and provide best value for the project.
  • Review and refine testing requirements and scope
  • Review of the test results produced during trials and sitework (in collaboration with the site lab or an external lab) to ensure that they are performed as per the relevant standards and meet the project needs and requirements.
  • Ensuring that materials incorporated into the works are consistent, with the required specification, and necessary approvals for use are obtained, recorded, and managed using the relevant Materials Acceptance process.
  • Review of requirements from Works Information, SCEWS and CRTs; advise on proposed amendments and derogations
  • Coordination of materials specifications, ITP requirements and supply chain materials management during mobilization and works execution
  • Preparation and/or review of Inspection and Test Plans and Specification Appendices. Assisting the QA Team in verifying the construction of the works.
  • Provide Technical advice on required derogations and amendments of requirements, specifications, etc.
  • Support in recruitment of specialist staff for testing and materials management, assurance, testing for the area site laboratories.
  • Understand the Client and Joint Venture Partners' Environment and Sustainability Policies, Processes, and statutory requirements as they affect the company's operations and ensure that the requirements, as applicable within their discipline, are implementedon the project.
  • Engagement with supply chain/ subcontractors, support of engineering, procurement, and construction teams
  • Review and detailed definition of testing facilities on site/ off site
  • Review and refine testing procurement strategy, support in selection of subcontractors and contract development
  • Review Handover Packs as representative of the Engineering Team.
  • Identify and promote recycling initiatives in conjunction with the construction team, their supplychain & the Environmental Team. Support sustainable business development by maximising opportunities to use secondary materials and minimize the use of primaryaggregates.
  • Carry out works' surveillances assuring compliance with relevant Specification requirements.
  • Carry out materials testing audits to ensure the testing is performed in accordance with the relevant Standards.
  • Carry out Materials Supplier/Manufacturer Audits to ensure compliance with relevant Standards and Procedures.
  • Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or Materials or Earthworks is desirable
  • Relevant experience in similar projects (+15 years preferable)
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbally
  • Ability to work individually and as part of a team
  • Reliable with excellent timekeeping
  • Willingness to work overtime which may also include weekend and/or night working
  • A full driving license is appreciatedAn industry accredited safety training eg. CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme)
