We have a fantastic opportunity for a
Section Engineer to join our talented
Highways Team on the
M1/M62 CSB scheme in Leeds. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our team and help us deliver a successful project.

This role will see you providing management, leadership and control of a multi-disciplinary team comprising Sub Agents, Section Engineers, Site Engineers & Foremen.


What you'll be doing

  • Motivate section team and manage performance, monitor the competency of team members and undertake training/ coaching as appropriate
  • Sets targets and KPI's in line with Project / Business objectives and monitors performance.
  • Manages subcontractor performance based on KPI's
  • Carries out periodic Safety & Environment Tours as required by the Project H & S Plan.
  • Assists Lead in Incident Investigation and information gathering / review.
  • Appraises improvement options and actions / instigates as appropriate.
  • Leads periodic risk reviews and takes output forward to the Project Risk Register.
  • Monitors effectiveness of the H & S Management System.
  • Keeps up to date with changes in legislation and cascades information to the team.
  • Ensures that sufficient resources are allocated to the Works Section and that each has an appropriate level of ability
  • Ensures site audits are undertaken and takes appropriate action on the findings.
  • Appraises improvement options and leads / instigates actions as appropriate.
  • Implements systems and processes to manage the quality of the constructive works.
  • Ensures production of operational target programmes to reflect overall construction programme.
  • Chairs prescribed Short Interval Control section meetings to review performance on site.
  • Attends and provides reports for weekly project meetings and identifies improvement areas and allocates / implements appropriate actions to team members.

Who we're looking for

  • Degree qualified, Civil Engineering.
  • Able to clearly communicate the requirements of a safe system of work to ensure that these are followed accurately.
  • Capable of taking ownership of tasks and communicating outcomes with clarity; experienced at encouraging direct reports to do the same and managing a team to ensure tasks are carried out effectively and key messages cascaded.
  • Strong work ethic with flexibility to work unsociable hours/nights as required by the programme.
  • Able to work on own initiative and seek out opportunities in line with level of responsibility
  • Holds a current driving license and CSCS Card
  • SMSTS qualified
