ILS Lecturer (Additional Learning Needs and Complex Needs Specialist)


Contract: 0.5 fte - Fixed Term until 31st
July 2024 (Secondment Cover)

Hours: 18.5

Salary:
£22,583 - £44,444 (Pro-rata)


Cardiff and Vale College's Foundation Learning department deliver courses for young people with Additional Learning Needs and/or Disabilities and those at risk of becoming NEET.

The department grows year on year and our curriculum for 2023/24 includes 31 courses for 400+ potential learners across 6 different sites.

Our person centred and outcome driven courses are organised into the following areas.

  • Foundations of Independent Living
  • Foundations of Work
  • Foundations of Study


All Foundation Learning courses use a mixture of traditional classroom-based lessons and project-based learning, to create a vibrant and engaging curriculum.

Our team use their wider skill sets and work history to enhance the curriculum, ensuring that our students are skilled and employable people.

We are passionate about teaching and learning and recognise that like our learners, each new staff member has had their own learning journey.

For this reason, we pride ourselves on our CPD program focusing on what we teach and how we teach it and offer regular workshops and termly CPD focused on making teachers confident that they are making an impact in the classroom.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Undertaking the role of course tutorship for your cohort of learner;
  • Undertaking all organisational and administrative work associated with the above
  • Undertaking of all pedagogic work
  • Developing a team around the learner to meet pastoral and educational needs
  • Monitoring and tracking student progress, including contributing to annual reviews
Applicants must have a degree and a relevant teaching qualification Welsh language skills would be desirable for this post.
