Description
Junior Clinical Teaching Fellow in Paediatrics - Full time

Barnet Hospital

Post to start September 2024

We are pleased to advertise a new and exciting position for a teaching fellow with a 50:50 split between undergraduate education and a clinical role in Paediatrics based at Barnet hospital.

This is a 12-month post starting in September 2024 (start date can be flexible).

The aim of the undergraduate education role centres around the development and delivery of teaching to year 5 medical students undertaking Module A (specifically paediatrics including level 2 neonates) and shared educational duties such as examining and delivery of UCL medical school assessments with a network of Barnet clinical teaching fellows.

The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust is a central University College London (UCL) Medical School campus that teaches hundreds of medical students, at all stages of learning, every year across Barnet, Chase Farm and the Royal Free Hospitals.

An exciting new development has begun at Barnet hospital: Barnet hospital partnered with North Middlesex and has recently become a 4 th site called the BMX site for UCL medical school. From September 2024 the Paediatric team at Barnet will, for the first time, host year 5 students as a 4 th central teaching site giving an exciting opportunity to be involved in the development of this module as well as delivering teaching. The post holder will also participate in the busy and varied programme of undergraduate teaching delivered by a growing faculty of education fellows across the Trust. Funding and support will be available to pursue a postgraduate qualification in medical education if wanted.

Alongside the education role, the postholder will be part of the paediatric team which will include working on the paediatric ward (Galaxy), paediatric emergency department as well as the Neonatal unit and postnatal ward.

This is within a friendly and supportive team with consultant supervision and providing opportunities for workplace-based assessments, learning procedures, and developing clinical skills.

The postholder will be welcome to attend the wide and varied programme of educational meetings and can access teaching specific to postgraduate exams if relevant.

The appointed doctor will be part of the paediatric on-call rota, at either SHO or Registrar level depending on qualifications and prior experience.

This role will suit enthusiastic and motivated doctors with an interest in education, and will provide excellent clinical and educational experience for the progression of a career within Paediatrics.

It is a new and flexible post which offers the opportunity to be involved with undergraduate teaching, curriculum development and student assessment, while maintaining core clinical skills.
